On 1st June 2010 The Event Store organised a very special Perth Farmers’ Market to welcome HRH Prince Charles, The Duke of Rothesay. The visit was part of a day long engagement in support of the Perth 800 festivities. It was supported by Perth & Kinross Council and Scotland Food & Drink The Duke of Rothesay arrived to the sound of the band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and was welcomed by Chairman Andrew Scarlett; Market Co-ordinator Adeline Watson; Market Founder Jim Fairlie and Chairman of Cittaslow Perth and National Co-ordinator of Cittaslow UK, Jack Coburn. There were 28 stalls selling a variety of produce including fresh meat, vegetables, jams, bread, oatcakes and fruit wines. A special attraction was a spit roast wild boar. Cheering crowds endured the drizzle to watch as the Duke browsed the stalls for over an hour, chatting to stallholders and members of the public. He visited the cooking marquee and tasted some of the dishes prepared by Stephen McLaughlin from Andrew Fairlie @ Gleneagles . He also stopped to sample oak leaf wine from the Cairn O’Mohr Winery. Afterwards, the Duke, a strong advocate of organic farming and the type of direct-to customer sales of local seasonal produce the monthly markets offer, called the market "marvellous" and added, "It makes such a difference to speak directly to the producers. They’re the future aren’t they?"To view our full gallery of photographs please visit http://www.glen-photography.co.uk/. Once into the Home page click on "Log in to your gallery".
